My Penn Foster Career School Experience

My blog will be about trying to balance my families life, homeschooling my child, being disabled and trying to start a catering business while taking classes.

Getting Started On New Courses

A few weeks ago I received a giant book from the Culinary Institute of America, and I was absolutely thrilled to see all of the wonderful recipes and tips inside of it. Today I realized that I have to actually read this book in its entirety and it scared me to death. Not because I have to read it, but because I’m being tested on it. For the first time since starting my catering course, I’m being tested on a gigantor book. Actually gigantor is an understatement as there are over 1200 pages in this book. You could say I’m a touch nervous.

About four months ago I was diagnosed with some pulled and torn tendons on the top of my foot as well as a small fracture. I was told there was nothing that could be done about it because of it’s location with the exception of taking it easy. Since my job as a domestic goddess requires me to care for my family, you can assume that taking it easy isn’t part of my lifestyle. Since my foot has seemed to gotten worse instead of better, my husband has ordered me to stay off of it for the entire weekend. Yay! He’s cleaning and making dinner and I’m going to spend my weekend in bed with my foot up and studying my butt off. I’ve got a couple of study units to go through before starting on the 1200 page book, but that doesn’t make me any less nervous about being tested on it.

Today I’m starting on my newest study unit about Alcohol. I was going to start it a couple of weeks ago, but the flu got in my way, so I’m starting it today. I finally finished my garnishing section and I took my exam last night. I scored an 85% on it, which isn’t bad, but wouldn’t you know the question I got wrong pertained to those dang carrots I tried to tie into bows yesterday. Talk about irony.

Well I’m off to bed now to put my feet up with alcohol book in hand. Have a good weekend all.

About Cat

I'm a mother of two, five if you include the pets. I'm currently homeschooling my youngest son and truly enjoying it. Singing and cooking have been passions of mine since I was a child and since I don't think any record companies will be knocking on my door anytime soon, I've chosen the cooking path. I was born in New York, but I've lived all over the country, and now I'm thrilled to say that Oklahoma is my home and will be for many years to come.
