I’m happy with a high “B”. Based on the performance in week one of
International Business, I was really trying not to look at my grades for week three so my holiday would not be ruined. In the end, I could not help myself. I had to look. I was pleasantly surprised. I got an 88 on the assignment! This is a major upgrade from our assignment in week one! I think I am getting a grasp on this.
I also wanted to talk about another experience I encountered a few weeks ago and how a combination of ignorance and online education can put people in bad situations.
I was expecting a call from a recruiter about a job I was interested in. When he called me, he asked about my college education. I explained that I was six months away from graduating from
Norwich University with my MBA. His response was a profound, “Is that an accredited school?”
I told him that not only was it accredited, but it’s also been around since 1812 and is the oldest military academy in the country. The conversation went downhill from there. After talking to someone I know who just happened to work with this guy a long time ago, it’s probably for the better. From what I understand, the guy was more interested in beer and partying than anything else. Common sense wasn’t one of his stronger points.
But that brings me to the point that it’s hard to deal with people who could potentially have your career in their hands in some respect but have absolutely no concept of how people can earn degrees online now. Based on my initial assessment of this guy, I didn’t feel like spending (wasting) my time explaining the whole thing to him. I wasn’t that interested in the job. But it’s still frustrating.
Distance learning is gaining ground in profound ways. But there are still people out there who are in the dark. Hopefully you won’t have one of them with any level of control over your career.
