An old friend approached me a couple months ago asking for help on finding the right school for him to get his
MBA. I like when this happens because I can put some of the skills and knowledge that I gained after searching for my program. That was a search that lasted almost two years and came down to getting an email from
Norwich University at the 11th hour. All the time I spent searching for the right school was not wasted, however.
And while he did not pick one of the schools that we’re familiar with (
Kaplan University,
Walden University,
University of Phoenix, etc…) He did pick a good one. He picked Tulane University. Founded in 1834, Tulane is one of the most highly regarded and selective independent research universities in the United States. A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, they are a part of a select group of 62 universities with “pre-eminent programs of graduate and professional education and scholarly research.” Tulane offers undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees in the liberal arts, science and engineering, architecture, business, law, social work, medicine and public health and tropical medicine.
I took pride in writing my friend’s recommendation letter. It was a rewarding experience for me. This is especially true since I’ve known him since he was in grade school. I am glad to see him go back for an advanced degree. I think he will do well.
If my memory serves me, this will be the third person I’ve been able to help get back into school. Two of them work at the same company I do and either report to me or did at one time. Aside of the obvious rewards of going to school, this is one that I take the most pride in. I can take what I’ve learned through my time in school and pass it along in some form so other people can make an educated decision about their own future. This is what makes it fun.
