I am getting ready to begin my online education for a BS in Web Design. I am looking at American Sentinel University. Do you know anything about this school?
I chose it for the tuition reduction/books-supply fee reduction to military spouses. Can you tell me if they are a good school to get my BS degree from? They are accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council. They offer in-house financing.
The other school I looked into was Capella University online; which claims they have a higher professional IT organization level and certifications like CISSP, PMP, CCNA, and the NSA.
Are these certifications important? Capella is accredited by the same institution that accredits the State Schools in my state, which allows for federal financing. Can you tell me which school would be the best choice for this degree?
These are good questions. I think that Capella has been around longer and might have a more established program if you are looking into web design. I am not very familiar with either of the schools you mention, but selecting one that is accredited is very important. That should be one of the first things you look at when selecting a school.
As far as certifications, I think they are very important depending on the field you are in. If you are looking to get into high-level network administration, project management and other things, you will need some of these. But these certifications are not easy to get. They are hard for a reason. People who have them have proven themselves and have a great understanding of the subject matter. Don’t fool yourself. If that’s the field you want to do into, go for it. If not, they might not do you any good.
When I get done with my MBA, I am going to get my PMP. I need a few more acronyms next to my name. But seriously, these certifications are important for certain fields of work. If you are considering any of the Cisco certifications, I might suggest NOT getting the degree in web design. Do something in information technology. These skills and training will go hand in hand.
