Week four kicks off at Norwich University. This week, we’re talking about management and information technology. The goal is to write an essay describing a scenario where an organization has moved either too fast or too slow in using information technology (either internally or externally) in its business. As you can see by my previous posts, a lot of what I do in the real world applies so much to this class. This topic will be no exception.
Our message board assignment this week is to discuss the role of IT to support a key business process within the value chain of your own organization or one with which you are familiar. We have to elaborate on how such factors as organizational resources, strategy and mission, nature of products, and the location of customers and markets help to decide this.
I have a lot to say. This should be a good week!
Since starting at Norwich, I’ve had to adjust my schedule a little in order to make sure that I get everything done, and pay the most attention possible to my studies. The school week essentially runs from Monday – Saturday, with my assignment being due at 11pm central time on Saturday night. In order to accomplish this, I’ve arranged my week like this:
Monday – Listen and watch the online Power Point lecture, read the chapters that have been assigned, answer the message board question(s).
Tuesday – Follow up and reply to the postings of the other students, begin the outline of my paper. Search for additional reference sources.
Wednesday – Hit the message boards again and start writing my paper.
Thursday – This day brings some options. I either continue writing my paper if I feel like I am behind, or I take the night off. If I feel like I am in a good place, then I just take it easy.
Friday – More message boards and continue writing.
Saturday – Complete the paper (if needed) and turn it in.
Sticking to a schedule is a good thing, as I am sure everyone is aware. Sticking to a schedule and getting the bulk of the requirements out of the way early on is even better.
Onward and upward!
