The Final Hat Trick

“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”   --Dale Carnegie

Now that I’m a couple of weeks into my final term at Kaplan, I have not only found that I am more than eager to absorb the material and take it all in (as outlined in a previous post), but these three classes are coming together like a well-oiled machine.  Almost like a hand that fits perfectly into a glove.

My Capstone class is an all-encompassing class where we take everything we’ve learned over the course of the past two years and put it together.  What I really like about it is that we are encouraged to think outside the box and use materials that we find on our own.  This class did not come with any books or other materials, so I am able to do real research using my extensive library I’ve accumulated at home.  This makes the learning process a lot more fun for me, and it forces to open some of the books that I might have not otherwise had a chance to read with my busy schedule.

The Web Marketing and e-Commerce class is great too.  I am not one to market products to people.  I’ve always said that I could not sell a hot cup of coffee to an Eskimo.  I am not a salesman.  But marketing is a science, and I like to dive into that kind of stuff just to see how it works.  Bringing a management perspective to it also helps to put a different spin on things.  This class is small, and everyone seems to be working well together.

The Advanced Career Development Strategies class is good too.  This is not a class that helps you develop your resume.  We’re looking at factors that affect different industries and the reason they are affected.  One of the major goals of the class is to assemble a portfolio, but there is so much more to it.  It is indeed informative.

The final thing that I think is really cool is that most of the people who are in my three classes are also on their final or next-to-final term at Kaplan, and we’re all shooting for the same goal: Graduation!  I haven’t seen a cohesive group like this since I started my classes four years ago (where everyone was new and just wanted to keep from failing the class).  Hahahaha!!

The enthusiasm that I have is been slightly more than in the past, and I am enjoying the challenge of keeping up with three classes at a time.  I’ve only taken three classes at a time once before, but I think the prize at the end of the race is in sight now.
