Complete Idiot's Guide

This has been a very boring, unmotivated week.  I have some message boards to take part in, two final projects, and a final exam.  And I did absolutely nothing with any of that this week.  As this term winds down, I am finding that getting motivated is getting more and more difficult as time goes on.  I will get my work done on time as I usually do, but gathering the motivation to get it done is not easy.  Maybe when the start of the new term comes in a few weeks, I’ll be more motivated.

Anyway, I did some shopping at the local Half Price Books this weekend.  There are three of them within 20 minutes of my house, so my selection was very good.  I was looking for books on education and some other topics that interest me.  I ended up picking up a couple that I thought I would share with you.

The first one was The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting Your MBA Online.  This is a very good book, actually.  It’s a year or two old, but is still very relevant.  One thing that I liked about the book is that it talks about accreditation of the MBA program.

As some of you might be aware through my previous postings, accreditation is an important factor to me.  This book pretty much told me what I needed to know.  It discusses the three major agencies that handle accreditation of most MBA programs, and says that while AACSB is the most prominent of the three (something I already knew), that doesn’t mean that the others are of lesser quality.  What it boils down to is that we have to know our money is being spent well, and we’re getting a good, accredited education.

The second book was The Complete Idiot's Guide to MBA Basics.  This book features updated topics to build MBA knowledge that can and will be applied in the educational environment, and in the workplace. The book focuses on management skills, business operations, financial statements, marketing, product development, customer service, strategic planning, information management, and quality management.  Just because this book has “Idiot’s Guide” in the title is no reflection on the quality of the information in the book.  This is a really good book that covers some great information.

The “Idiot’s” books are really great.  I would suggest you pick some up.  Their web page is at http://us.penguingroup.com/static/html/cig/index.html and you can check out their wide range of titles.  They sure helped me.

Great post!  You've pointed out some awesome and helpful books, thanks!  :-D  I'm sure you'll find motivation.  Maybe you just need to relax without thinking about classwork at all for a day.  Might help to clear your mind a bit.  :-)
