Your MBA Reading List

First, my apologies in advance to my loyal fans and readers in the distance education community (all 3-4 of you) for the delay in between posts.  I usually try to get 2-3 posts a week, but I’ve been dealing with some issues at home.  I found a huge water leak from the water heater in the garage.  Water was spewing into the garage and into the area between the first and second floors of my house.  The shower and bathtub started separating from the foundation, and this led to a massive mold discovery.  That means having to deal with insurance agents, contractors, and other people who will control a big part of my life for the foreseeable future.  It’s only just begun and I can’t imagine what kind of inconvenience this is ultimately going to be for me.  On top of that, I have to go to work every day and keep up with school projects.  Luckily this is the first week of the term, and the workload isn’t too rough.

The other bad thing about this is the absolute destruction of my “daily structure” that I have in place.  I go to work, I go home, I do school work, etc… It’s a routine that I like.  When things like this happen, it throws everything else off, and compensating for it is more difficult than usual.  All of this reminds me of one of my favorite lines in one of my all-time favorite movies, Airplane.

“Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue.”

That brings us to our “phrase of the day”.

“Always be prepared”.  I think I’ve heard that somewhere.  Oh yeah, I was a boy scout when I was a kid.  That’s the Boy Scout motto.  Funny how things like that motto still apply to adult life.  In preparation for my life as “MBA Student”, I went on a book search at Amazon.com and placed a large order.  I figured that I would be better off learning everything I can about the whole MBA process.  I am not beyond reading the “Dummies” books for basic information.  I was also looking for more advanced books that can provide some insight on what I can do to be better prepared when the time comes.

With that said, here’s your MBA reading list.

This may sound like a very elementary question, but what does one learn in an MBA program?

Leadership skills and how to manage people?

Project Management?

??

I'll probably post this question in the forums section too . ..

Victoria:

Marketing

Accounting

Finance

Management

Business Strategy

Organizational Leadership

Basically it touches on all the areas that make an organization run from a management perspective.  Kind of a "jack of all trades master of none"...except perhaps for management since the entire program is often from the management perspective.
