The MBA Can Open Doors

Getting a degree can be a long process.  It can be tiring, time consuming, and there have been times where I think, “What can this do for me?”  I decided a long time ago that if I get my Bachelors degree, I am going to follow through with my MBA.  With the time invested, I think I would only be cheating myself if I didn’t put in the extra couple of years to get that MBA.  I am told that doors can open wide in terms of career opportunities, higher salary and more.

I found a great article on CNN.com today that lists the top 25 MBA employers.  For someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience in the business world, some of the companies on the list might be a surprise, or even unknown.  But I am familiar with some of them, and I can say that working at these places is like a gift handed over on a silver platter, with a bright red bow.

The company at the top of the list is Google.  Some people might think of Google as just a search engine.  But nothing could be more from the truth.  Just look at the positions Google is hiring for at any given time.  They are heavy on the engineering, product development, finance and other positions that drive any successful company.

McKinsey & Company is the second on the list.  I’ve worked with this consulting firm before.   They recruit from the best colleges, and getting into the organization is difficult.  But they are indeed some of the smartest people on the planet.  This is why getting a MBA with AACSB accreditation is of utmost importance if you would like to get into this field when you graduate.  Just as an example of what kind of people work at McKinsey, the team lead that was assigned to us was a young guy in his early-mid 30’s and had a B.S. degree, MBA, Ph.D. in electrical engineering, and a law degree, all from Ivy League schools.  I think he was the exception, so don’t let that scare you away.  Just do what your heart tells you.

Other companies include the big players in the financial industry, banking, computer industry and others.  I can say that I know a lot of people who work at some of the companies on this list, and they can open doors for you if you meet them half way with that MBA.

Getting your MBA online from an AACSB-accredited university is going to be a crucial decision if you would like to work for one of these organizations.  Showing the company that you completed the curriculum online demonstrates a level of diligence that they are looking for.  Working for one of the top 25 is not for everyone.  So find out what you want to do with your online MBA and make educated decisions.  Take advantage of opportunities as they arise.  The sky is the limit.

Great post. You've obviously been able to think out what you want your MBA to do for you and in doing so, have set yourself a clear path to success. When times get tough, this understanding of the future impact will remind you that the work is worth it. Bravo.
