Megan Howard, a resident of the Denver, Colorado area, is currently a student studying to become a veterinary technician. She was baby-sitting 2-year-old Hannah Kuusk when this aspiring vet tech's parrot became a 'sung hero.'
The toddler, Hannah, was reportedly having a Pop-Tart® when she began to choke. Ms. Howard was in the bathroom when her parrot, Willie, began to cry, "Mama, baby" repeatedly and flapping his wings rapidly. Ms Howard later told reporters that she had never heard Willie cry out in that way before, and was immediately alarmed. She entered the kitchen to find Hannah turning blue from the lack of oxygen.
Ms. Howard successfully performed the Heimlich Maneuver on the child. Hannah is now doing just fine. Willie, a Monk (or Quaker) parrot is being hailed a hero.
Ms. Howard and Hannah's mother are both studying to be vet techs. Imagine the lives they will help save working in the veterinary field!
Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Just wanted to share a bit of positive news.
