Woman Earns GED at 97

Recently, the Associated Press reported that a Amarillo, Texas woman earned her GED.

She is 97 years young!

What's a GED? GED stands for General Educational Development. It is equivalent to earning a high school diploma. To earn your GED, you must pass a set of tests that examine your ability in different academic areas (like mathematics, English, etc.)

The article reports that Ms. Evie Eaves was born and raised in Oklahoma, and stopped attending school because she was needed to help her family on their farm.

Eventually, she married and raised a family of her own. Many years passed, and soon the young mother became a grand mother and then great-grandmother. It was her great-granddaughter who encouraged her to take the GED tests and earn her GED.

In the article, Ms. Evie admitted having feelings of doubt about taking the tests. She wasn't sure she had the ability to pass.

Her family helped her study, and after some time, she was ready to take the test. With her loved ones, she was able to earn her GED.

It can be very intimidating to consider going back to school. Try looking to your loved ones, your family, and even your co-workers for help and support. To all those taking steps to go back to school, we congratulate you. Every step forward is significant - you can do it!
