Teacher Education Online: Satisfying Demand, Maintaining Standards of Quality

Despite the fact that schools are tackling very real challenges, the outlook continues to be very positive for individuals who wish to become teachers. There are challenges, though, and students wishing to enter the profession will need to be aware of them, which include the rapid growth of students, budget shortfalls due to a downturn in the economy, and an increasing emphasis on results from standardized tests.

The overall number of teachers in the U.S. is projected to rise significantly.

It is important to keep in mind how education programs are evaluated, and the kinds of scrutiny they receive when undergoing their accreditation reviews.

Philosophy and Core Vision/Mission:

The college must articulate a coherent vision and demonstrate how all courses and educational experiences help build the central core. Accreditation teams will look at the core philosophy as articulated by the school, and will seek evidence that it is being adhered to and implemented in all aspects of the program.

Education Curriculum/Courses:

Review of syllabi, lesson plans
Statement of vision/mission/philosophy
Demonstrate how the mission and plan integrate into the courses, etc.
Curriculum strategy sessions
Outcomes/outcomes assessment (teaching, etc.)
