It's National Poetry Month!

I'm a copywriter and didn't know that April was National Poetry Month. Luckily I have a crafty boss who gets Google Alerts for just about everything.

There are many types of poetry, including the sonnet, the haiku, and the cinquain. I found a great overview online from the University of Nebraska at Kearney's physics department (yes, physics).

Though I prefer prose over poetry, I can certainly appreciate it. Some of my favorites include Robert Frost, William Blake, and Carl Sandburg. If you have a moment, flip through an old book or search online for a poem you may remember. I can remember bits and pieces from poems I read in middle school, and thanks to search engines, I was able to read a poem I haven't looked at in many years.

If you have some extra time to dedicate to poetry, Poets.org has collected ways to enjoy poetry every day this month! For me, I'm going to read through The Sins of Kalamazoo one more time before returning to my regular duties. Perhaps it will give me the inspiration to discipline myself and read a chapter tonight for my online English grammar course.

If anything, I'll enjoy feasting my eyes on an old favorite.
