Here's to Online Education in 2008

Happy New Year! Welcome 2008!

We at eLearners happen to *love* the month of January because it's an especially busy time of year for us.

After the alternate calm and chaos of the holidays, the buzz builds for a new year. We know that folks typically look to a new year as being a fresh start.

In addition to wanting to lose weight or quit smoking, goals related to one's career and upgrading one's education and skills training are especially popular.

If you are newly committed to changing and improving your life, we congratulate you! Let us help you:

Kicking off online education news in 2008 is a News-Gazette story about how University of Illinois's Global Campus is preparing for launch at http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2008/01/01/program_readies_for_launch.

Writes Christine Des Garennes, "More than two years since UI President B. Joseph White posed the idea of creating a fourth, virtual campus, and over a year since an administrative and faculty report put the proverbial stake in the ground and outlined a possible structure for the initiative, prompting numerous debates about how online education should be done at the University of Illinois, the UI's Global Campus will formally launch Wednesday.

A handful of programs and a handful of students (fewer than 30) will begin then. The inaugural courses will be for a bachelor of science completion degree in nursing and courses for a master's of education in online learning and a graduate certificate in the foundations of e-learning."

We here at eLearners are excited for University of Illinois Global Campus's launch and wish them and all the newly enrolled students the very best! You can learn more about their online offerings, such as:

at http://www.elearners.com/college/uigc/.

Remember, U of I degree and certificate programs are created in collaboration with the colleges and academic departments at the University’s residential campuses at Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield. The curricula are developed by world-class University of Illinois faculty who are leaders in their fields of study. Upon completion of a program, you will earn a degree from the fully accredited University of Illinois.

[Hope the Global Campus's launch today takes the sting off from being stomped on by USC, 49-17, in the Rose Bowl yesterday.
