Top 5 Posts of the Week at eLearners.com - 08/03/07

Hey everyone!  It's that time of the week again!  Huzzah for Fridays!

1.)  I would like to start with Cajun's post "My Hidden Little Gems: How to boost your resume WITHOUT a degree, if you have the wrong degree, etc." on his blog My Ashford University Experience.  In it he gives a little overview of some ways that you can improve on your resume and help yourself be more qualified for certain jobs if you don't have a degree, or if you have the "wrong" degree.  His solution is to go for certifications, certificates and professional credentials.  They can give your resume an extra little boost if you're applying for a job that is not necessarily in the area that you studied in college.  Cajun gives some examples of types of jobs and some certifications that a person could get to supplement their resume and better qualify them for the job.

I would also just like to quickly point everyone to another of Cajun's posts "Get Happy: It's your responsibility to do so".  It's basically about happiness and how it is your responsibility to make sure that you are happy.  You have to consciously make the decision to change your mood and to improve upon whatever it is that is making you unhappy.  It's all a state of mind!

2.)  TC's post (tcord1964) "Changing Careers: One Year Later" on his blog My Penn Foster College Experience discusses different types of people that choose to go back to school online and post in our community.  He narrows it down to people who "are going to school because they want to get ahead in their careers" and people who "are going to school because they want to change careers."  TC offers some advice to those considering a career change and makes some great points about things to consider when deciding to change your career.

3.)  In Victoria's post "Student Overcomes to Go to College" on the Inspiration for Education blog she brings a remarkable student to our attention.  His name is Andrew Engel and he graduated from the University of Maryland this past May despite having no short-term memory.  He proves to everyone that you can do anything if you put enough effort towards it and you have enough determination and support behind you!  It's an amazing story and should inspire many!

4.)  Scott's post "Getting Close" on his blog My Kaplan University Experience discusses how he is approaching his next-to-final term at Kaplan!  It is great to hear about his progress and see solid movement forward!  He has to take three classes before graduation and in this post he discusses them and his expectations a bit.  It's great insight into how far he has gone and how he is feeling now that he is nearly done!

5.)  Lastly, I would like to point you all to Steve's post "The "delivery cost" of a degree" on his blog My St. Petersburg College Experience.  It is a quick little post discussing the "delivery cost" of Scott's degree!  First Scott explains what "delivery cost" means in terms of his brother's business, then he compares it to his online degree and figures out the "delivery cost" of it!  Coincidentally this allows him to discover how much money he is saving through going to school online.  It is very interesting to think about how much money a person can save through going to school online.  Sure, as with most schooling, it is definitely an expense, but going to school online takes away the hassle of gas, fixing a car, or living on campus and paying for room and board, and a potential meal plan!

Well, that's about all for me!  I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!!

Greetings and salutations, I am your friendly neighborhood Content Manager here at eLearners.com. (I am also mom to a seemingly tireless 3-year-old girl and owner to a cat that hates me. Oh well - can't win 'em all.)
