Online Learning in the 'Land Down Under'

G'day! (Sorry, sorry, just couldn't help ourselves.) The Australian reports that there is growing demand for distance education, "with some universities reporting a 50 per cent increase of course enrolments during the past two years."

"In line with the change from traditional distance education's more mature student uptake, the market incorporates the 20 to 60-year-old bracket, with more mature-aged people enrolling in postgraduate studies."

So similar to the changing student demographic in the United States, Australian students are also seeking out online education because of increased demands due to work and other obligations. The flexible scheduling offered by fully online and blended learning is ideal for both urban and rural dwellers.

Hi from Downunder,
Yes an increasing number of students are studying by distance on line at Universityand Further Education virtuasl campuses.
Am just completing a Bachelors Degree in Vocational Education and Training by distance.
Been interesting reading some of the other posts and blogs on the site.
Certainly many of the comments parallel my own experiences to date.
Probably the key points are flexibility and reduced delivery costs BUT the most successful courses have been where there has been f2f tutorials.
The group is predominantly matue plus 30 adult learners coming from workplace training and assessment backgrounds.
Two common complaints are "isolation" and "group work".
Sounds familiar..........
