I have to take a moment to jump in and send a big "congratulations" to my nephew J.C. who lives in Texas. He's my nephew on my wife's side, and this weekend he's graduating from the
University of Texas. My wife has taken the time to pack her bags and fly out to Texas in order to attend his graduation ceremony. I didn't post this information earlier, because the fact that she's going to be on hand for his very big moment is actually supposed to be a surprise. Some months ago he had asked her to attend the event, but she told him at that time that she would be unable to make it. He will certainly be amazed that she was able to get away and be with him for this huge milestone in his young life.
Ah, to be in my 20's again!
I'm very proud of the young man. He's worked very hard at this, and spared no effort in ensuring that he completed his classes as quickly as he could and earning the requisite number of credits in order to graduate on time. His engineering program certainly wasn't an easy one, and I know he made a lot of personal sacrifices in order to complete the program. In high school he studied very hard and prepared himself for continuing education, despite the fact that some of his friends were more interested in having a good time.
But now he's done it, and his family is very proud.
I know having him live away from home during his college time was difficult for my sister-in-law, she would much rather have had him at him I'm quite certain, but he had been offered a very lucrative scholarship to that particular school, so he jumped at the chance to attend the University of Texas. I know that it was a difficult transition for him as well, as he has always been very close with his family. Living apart has been a bit of a strain, as you can imagine, but this weekend his accomplishment shows that the sacrifices made are well worth it.
