Well, tomorrow is picture day. If you recall, a representative from St. Petersburg College has written a newsletter article about me and this blog. I'm very flattered that they feel my story is worth sharing with others. Now the downside to this whole deal is the fact that they want to include a photo of me with the piece. I've never considered myself a very "photogenic" person, and generally speaking I'd much rather take pictures than be in them. So I'm not excited about, but I'm accepting of, the fact that they're sending a photographer to my office tomorrow afternoon to get some shots to go along with the article.
I guess I'll be ready. I imagine that since I'm an executive in charge of a technical department, we'll take some photos of me standing in front of some impressive equipment like rack-mounted servers or or mini-computer or perhaps the rather massive UPS that takes up a big chunk of the server room. I don't expect this experience to be particularly fun, but I'll try hard to make the best of it. I'm sure the photographer from St. Petersburg College will be very professional and helpful. But, in the end, photographs just aren't "me".
It reminds me of "picture day" back when I was in junior high and high school. In fact, it brings to mind the most memorable of picture days for me...
It was the ninth grade and even though the date for "picture day" had been announced in advance, I had completely forgotten about it. Normally this would have been nothing more than a minor annoyance, but in fact on this particular day I had chosen to wear my favorite t-shirt to school, a shirt emblazoned with the slogan "Born To Lose".
So, to this day, my mother has among all of my school photos, a wonderful ninth grade portrait of me which declares that I was, indeed, "Born to Lose".
Hopefully tomorrow I'll remember to dress appropriately!
