It seems like we see this happening on a weekly basis. Another person gets caught with a bogus degree and it costs them in one way or another, either they lose their job or a promotion or their credibility or an election. I imagine that many times these degrees are obtained in ignorance. I would have to guess that a certain percentage of people who end up with a phony degree probably didn't realize that their school isn't a legitimate one. However, in the case of one man running for Sheriff in an Ohio county, I'd have to guess that particular degree is one that wasn't obtained by mistake.
Business booms for makers of fake college degrees
http://www.vindy.com/news/2008/jan/17/business-booms-for-makers-of-fake-college-degrees/?newswatchI'd have to believe that everyone, especially a professional who aspires to run for public office, should know that you can't obtain a legitimate associate degree by taking a test and paying $500 for it. One doesn't typically earn an associate degree in a week's time by doing not much more than writing a check.
This case serves as another important reminder that those looking to take the easy route to a degree could end up shortcutting themselves in many other ways when that phony degree comes back to bite them.
