My St. Petersburg College Experience

Steve's got it all - great wife, smart kids, successful career - except for one thing: a college degree. Now, at 44, he's going back to school online at St. Petersburg College to finish the associate's degree he abandoned 25 years ago.

Two B's or not two B's?

Well, my final grades for my two classes, Earth Sciences and Studies in Applied Ethics, have been officially posted at St. Petersburg College for the fall semester. As it turned out, I ended up with two B's. That's really below my usual standards, but I'll take it (I mean, what choice do I have?). If you've been following my blog from the beginning, you probably know that my real goal is simply to earn my AA degree now and then continue on to get my BA in Business. My planned path doesn't really rely on a 4.0 GPA or anything to get me into a particular school, and while I'd love to post an outstanding grade point average, at the end of the day acceptance into the program I'm thinking about is essentially assured.

So...my grades this time around aren't up to my usual "A's only" standard, but I won't be losing any sleep over it.

I'm pleased that the final grades were posted online today, because I immediately printed out my grade sheet and faxed it over to the Human Relations department at work so that they can process my reimbursement. My company will not reimburse tuition on classes if you score a grade lower than "C" so we have to provide proof of our final grade in each class in order to collect the funds. It was important to get the paperwork in now, because there is an annual limit on how much we can get reimbursed and I have plenty left on this year's tuition allowance. Next year I will be spending more on tuition because I plan on attending an additional semester, so ensuring that I'm reimbursed this year for this semester is important in keeping me from going over the limit next year.

Oh, and even though it doesn't really amount to a hill of beans, I thought I'd just share with you that today is my birthday. My family and I had a great birthday dinner at my Mom's house (pot roast, yum!) and we all had a really nice time.
