My Ashford University Experience

Vanessa is a 24-year-old stay-at-home mom, wife, military spouse, and veteran. She started her online education while she was still in the Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge, getting married, and having two beautiful girls in two years, she is still going strong with her education at Ashford University. She is currently doubling up on classes with hopes to attend graduation December 2009 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration.

I received my information packet from Bellevue today

So I finally got my brochure and blank application from Bellevue University today.  Honestly everything that’s in there is already on their website but it’s nice to have a paper copy in hand to look at.  If you’re wondering if they have updated their website and paper materials to reflect the upcoming project management emphasis, they haven’t, but I’m sure it’ll roll out in the Fall as promised.

So I’ve been asked if I’m nervous, and truth told I am a little bit.  I’m more nervous about the school not being a good fit for me than I am about my own academic prowess.  I think after the MBA process I’m up to the challenge, I’m mostly just nervous about beginning such a long process with a school that up to this point I only know by reputation.  I spoke with one of my coworkers today who is only 3 classes away from her degree from Bellevue and she has nothing but positive things to say about them.  She has been working on her BS from them since her first college class ever so she really has no basis of comparison but at least they’ve been able to keep her around through the entire process.  The main thing is that I plan on taking my time and enjoying the process as much as possible.  At this point it’s more important that I learn these skills and concepts than earn another degree, but the extra degree sure will be nice to have when I’m done.

I do plan on earning some industry certifications while earning my degree at the same time.  As I’ve written before, I’m starting off in project management, either the PMP first or the Project+, I’m not 100% sure yet.  I will say that the PMP is a much more in demand credential, hands down.
