Vanessa is a 24-year-old stay-at-home mom, wife, military spouse, and veteran. She started her online education while she was still in the Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge, getting married, and having two beautiful girls in two years, she is still going strong with her education at Ashford University. She is currently doubling up on classes with hopes to attend graduation December 2009 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration.
This may shock some of you, but I failed in week 1 of my studies at WNMU in the Criminal Justice course. How? Simple, I failed to schedule correctly. With the career change that I’ve been going through I simply have not set aside the time needed to do my coursework. It’s that simple. Poor scheduling equals poor grades. If you don’t get something in on time, you get a big fat “0” for the week. That’s right, goose egg, nada, zip. My hours have totally flipped, I’m now in a job that I’m way outside of my comfort zone in and to put the cherry on top of the cake, I now drive during peak traffic times, 45 minutes, each way.
So here’s how I plan not to repeat this mess. First, I will do all the catch up work I can stand tonight. Tomorrow I sit down and make out a schedule, on a calendar and use my workout time as buffers since no instructor actually accepts assignments on Saturdays so that buffer day off is right out. Instead I will begin my academic week on Sunday and run through Thursday. The course load is a bit heavier than I anticipated. Grad students are to submit 2 discussion questions per class per week and at least one chapter summary and or quiz in the Criminal Justice course, I’m not sure about the MIS course though. I’ll find out tomorrow. I’m going to work an hour early just to catch up on school work.
So time to put that time management stuff I learned way back when to some serious usage.

Ashworth College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Southwestern College of Winfield, KS graduating Magna Cum Laude and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership from
Ashford University. To further his new career Cajun will be working towards a Master of Science in Management of Information Systems with an emphasis in Project Management from
Bellevue University.
