So I have a reader question asking me why I’m getting a 2nd masters degree when I can theoretically already teach using an MBA. Well, truth be told it’s primarily for three distinct reasons.
First, the degree will diversify the subjects that I would qualify to teach in at the undergraduate collegiate level. In this case adding Criminal Justice and Management Information Systems to my battery of skills.
Second this degree will allow me to tie together my Criminal Justice and Computer backgrounds into one nice, convenient package.
Third I will be able to use this as a professional credential so long as I work in the fields of technology, criminal justice, social work, security, etc. I can list the M.A. on my resume as a Master of Arts (Interdisciplinary Studies) Emphasis in Management Information Systems if I’m applying for an I.T. or some other type of high tech job, or Master of Arts (Interdisciplinary Studies) Emphasis in Criminal Justice for working in security, Criminal Justice fields, etc. See? These fields are not very interdisciplinary thus I would like to allow myself as much wiggle room as possible, increasing my workplace marketability further.
I chose Western New Mexico University because they allowed 2 of the 18 hour emphasis requirements to be filled in 12 classes, unlike Fort Hays State University. Secondly they were very inexpensive. Third they had payment plans extended over the term of the degree. Fourth they were regionally accredited.
Good question, I hope that covers all of it.
