After probably 20 or so phone calls, 2 weeks of trying to get the right people for doing the right thing and a handful of emails I have finally successfully enrolled in my first two classes at Western New Mexico University, it didn’t go smoothly but it did get done. The good news is that the program is fairly inexpensive. The bad news is that they use WebCT which is a little more difficult for me to navigate around being that I’m not used to it. My first two courses are Organized Crime and Information Systems Networking. I’m late on ordering the books being that I wasn’t even 100% sure I was going to get into the program so hopefully I can get them before the first assignment is due, the problem is that they are coming from about 3 different sources.
I spoke with the loan corporation that I owe my existing student loans and learned a little about how loan deferment works. They basically informed me that once WNMU will certify me as at least a half time student I’m good to go on loan deferment. The way it works is this, if you allow your student status to lapse for over six months consecutively you have to begin paying on your loans. Even if latter you become a student again, the minute your student status stops you have to begin payments immediately, the six month period will not reset. However if you begin school before it expires the first time you get another six month grace period upon completing your second term. So that’s some motivation and what’s more, I get to take the summer months off from school and begin again in the fall, perfect!
I’ll keep you guys posted. Oh and it’s only three more days before my first day on my new job. Oh and one last thing, I got my Ashford diploma in the mail today. It’s a very nice diploma, although it’s always anticlimactic to get your diploma in the mail.
