Vanessa is a 24-year-old stay-at-home mom, wife, military spouse, and veteran. She started her online education while she was still in the Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge, getting married, and having two beautiful girls in two years, she is still going strong with her education at Ashford University. She is currently doubling up on classes with hopes to attend graduation December 2009 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration.

So I’ve been steadily working towards getting into Western New Mexico University after submitting my application last month. I spent the 8th on the phone and was transferred no less than 7 different times to 7 different people and still did not have all the information I needed. I finally received my conditional admission letter (conditional based upon my transcripts arriving and being acceptable) and attempted to register for 2 classes. They require 2 classes or 6 semester hours per 16 week semester and 1 class (3 hours) during 1 of the 2 five week summer semesters to maintain halftime status. I was able to successfully register for one class however when attempting to register for the Management Information System class I received an error stating that there were prerequisite requirements. I spoke to the woman I have been working with and she informed me that there was not supposed to be such a restriction on that class yet I continue to attempt to register to no avail. I will try again tonight and if I am not successful I will call again on Monday. Without being able to get into their MIS program I will not attend WNMU, I’ll have to figure something else out though I do not anticipate further problems.
So this brings me to a pretty good comparison between WNMU and Ashford University. When enrolling in Ashford I only dealt with one person the whole time, who knew the answers to all of my questions, who was in constant contact with me and ensured I enrolled into all the right classes at the right times. WNMU pretty much leaves almost everything up to the student. I attempted to call an academic advisor for the school and the one time I did get through the woman on the phone informed me that each of them were busy with a student and that there were 4 students waiting in the lobby and asked me to call back later. Eh? No message nothing. On my acceptance letter there are a couple additional contacts I have not tried but will try on Monday. I want to order my books and everything but without being able to enroll in the MIS program I am spinning my wheels and the money will be wasted. Bummer, it’s pretty tough doing everything at the last minute. I’ll keep you all updated.
