I know most of you on the eLearners website have heard of
Project Working Mom, if you haven’t you should check it out.
I’m not a single mother (nor am I in danger of becoming one) but they still have some pretty decent tips,
advice and articles there that anyone can use.
Anyways, Ashford University
is one of 5 schools that are giving away a full ride to a lucky single mom out
there. I love this type of stuff for a
couple of reasons.
First, single moms have it rough. We’re talking an uphill battle against all
odds in a hostile world and everything to lose kind of rough. Single moms are either saints, crazy or a
beautiful combination of both and I think we as a society should do everything
we can in our power to help them whenever possible.
Secondly because I was raised by a single working
mother. My parents were divorced when I
was 13 years old and my father lived across Texas
(which for you East Coast types is like living in Maine
when your dad is in Virginia). I can remember how tough things were, I was
the oldest of 4 kids and it was no picnic.
That being said I’ve always had a soft spot for mothers who take care of
the day in and day out, largely thankless job that they do but more so because
of the sacrifices that I know for a fact they make for their kids every
day. So it’s good to see someone helping
out a single mom in need once in a while and I know that for some mothers out
there a higher education seems more like a dream than a possibility.
I’m proud of the folks at eLearners and I’m proud of Ashford
University for doing this. Good job to all of those involved.
