My Ashford University Experience

Due to the grueling schedule as a full time law enforcement officer, Cajun has been a distance learner for the last 5 years. Currently he is attending Ashford University to earn his online MBA in Organizational Leadership.

Not a bad week in Operations Management

This week wasn’t all that bad.  The assignment was only a 3 page essay, excluding references of course, which was very nice of the instructor as our final assignment is due next week and most of us have already started on it.  As you may have guessed it is slightly more than a 3 page essay.  The class has gone very well for me except for that first week’s assignment where I didn’t do to well.  I’ve started to get back into the swing of writing research papers which in all honesty is something you have to either use or lose.  Just one of my reasons for completing a second master’s degree right after this one should time and finances permit it.  Of course it would also help to know what I wanted to major in as well now wouldn’t it?

Work life has gotten interesting of late.  There are some rumors of a hiring freeze in the future, which often is an indicator of a staff cut back in the future.  Personally I’m not too worried; I don’t plan on being there long after I complete my MBA.  I’ve been poking around at other jobs with an application here and there but I haven’t been too serious about it due to having serious concerns about selling myself short.  See if I get a job now, just 6 months prior to completing my MBA I will have received the job without being as marketable as I would be with the MBA.  Thus I may not get the salary I would have otherwise been offered.  There’s no promise that the MBA will make me more marketable but I’m holding out for hope.

I still need to register for the LSU Certificate in Accounting.  That is still my weak spot and an area that regardless whether I work in accounting or not, I need to be more familiar with than I am now.  After all, isn’t accounting the “language of business”?
