Okay I’m not going to kid you; I struggled on the week 3 assignment. I mean, why wouldn’t I? I had just written about how I was in, what was it? Oh yes, “familiar territory” and about how things were “down hill” and other such boastful phrases. Week 3 reminded me that I was still amidst a full blown MBA program and that I wasn’t out of the woods just yet. I probably spent about 10 hours all in all on that assignment largely screwing around with tables and spreadsheets. The assignment was pretty much all about project management, which while the concepts themselves readily make sense, the actual outlining of the of the project according to the terms of the assignment proved to be more difficult. Perhaps I didn’t struggle as much as my first 2 weeks of Quantitative Methods but it came pretty close there for a minute.
I’ve also made things worse recently because I have been procrastinating more and more. It’s a really bad habit to get into and a great way to ensure that every assignment will be a bear until I get back on schedule. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, getting off schedule only serves 2 purposes, lowering your grade and stressing you out. In my case I traded a truckload of stress for a higher grade, I did make an “A” but it wasn’t worth it.
I don’t have any Portable MBA books on project management so the “Cliff Notes” version of project management was really not available to supplement my normal reading assignment. Thank God for Wikipedia, which while not a reliable source in of itself can certainly get one on the right path. The text itself isn’t too bad if not a bit dry and in depth beyond what I would consider applicable knowledge unless project management became your profession.
Anyways, the week turned out okay after all.
