Due to the grueling schedule as a full time law enforcement officer, Cajun has been a distance learner for the last 5 years. Currently he is attending Ashford University to earn his online MBA in Organizational Leadership.
I am now waist deep in my week 5 and final case study for this class. This one is basically about market efficiencies, managed funds vs. non-managed trading, etc. It’s kind of neat in that there are no hard and fast rules and there is a lot of psychology involved. It also puts into perspective the effects and consequences of those “day traders” out there who are really amateurs but believe they’ve got the market all figured out. I would say that the market looks more like roulette than poker to me, but hey, at this point I’m a novice too. Albeit one who realizes how worthless his information is vs. the much more dangerous know it all. My workplace has 2 of these guys who run around giving free financial advice to anyone who will sit still long enough to hear it. The sad part is that some of my co-workers actually listen to these guys but the more I am learning the greater my realization is that these guys give advice that is about as worthwhile as what you pay them to give it to you…nothing.
I’ve decided to take a vacation next weekend. Once my final is complete and submitted I’m going to have a little party over at the new casa in celebration of both the new house and the completion of my core requirement. Time has been flying, I can’t believe I’m almost done with this class already but I am so glad that this is the case. It’s been the roughest 4 class stretch of anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s been 24 weeks of straight mathematics, yuck! I believe that the last 24 weeks are also the stretch where most people either change their major or drop out completely from the MBA program. Not that I know too many of my peers who have done so, but I do worry about some of them from time to time. Without a doubt to a man (or woman) they are the brightest people I’ve ever worked with but it isn’t brains that count so much as tenacity. Most of these people seem to have it though. Being smart helps but being tenacious is a requirement.
