My Ashford University Experience

Due to the grueling schedule as a full time law enforcement officer, Cajun has been a distance learner for the last 5 years. Currently he is attending Ashford University to earn his online MBA in Organizational Leadership.

Week 5 Underway...Oh and I put in for a new job

It’s week 5 in Managerial Finance and so far all is well.  I started playing guitar again this last week and we’ve almost got all of our boxes unpacked.  My garage is full of crap but at least now I have a living room and a couch to sit on.  I will be building a home office/music room soon.  That is once I have enough money to do so but space is certainly at a premium in that particular room because it is the smallest one in the house.  It’s also the only one that my wife will allow me to decorate myself ;-)  Once I’m done with this course I’m going to celebrate a little.  I’m thinking of maybe buying a school baseball cap or something, maybe going to dinner, starting a rock band or something, who knows?

Lastly, I put in for a new job today.  I technically am not qualified for the position but I thought, hey they didn’t require an MBA and I’m going to have one in October so let’s see if it piques someone’s interest in me.  The position would mark a career change out of law enforcement.  I’m actually quite nervous about getting out of a field that I have spent so much time and energy getting good at but I am at a point in my life where if I don’t do something I’m afraid I may level off.  This new position is still with my current employer but it is a type of position which has a salary that starts at what I make now and has a much, much higher ceiling.  It’s also in a department that has a lot of room for growth potential as many of the people who perform this job get snatched up by private sector employers at a premium.  The way I see it I can’t lose.  We’ll see how it goes anyways.
