I submitted my assignment and completed my discussion questions ending week 3 of Managerial Finance. I have to tell you folks, this was one of the roughest weeks I’ve experienced since beginning my MBA program. I knew there would be weeks like this and I thought I had prepared myself mentally for it before even starting the course but it still catches me by surprise every once in a while. Yesterday night I was sitting amidst no less than 2 textbooks, 2 computers one with my assignment in the works and the other with about 15 browsers open, a scientific calculator and a notebook amongst empty coffee cups. I must have looked like some kind of neurotic scientist on the verge of discovering the anti-gravity belt or something. The downer is that I’m just some overworked and under medicated grad student trying to figure out how to use a 10-Q and 10-K form to figure betas, cost of equity, cost of debt, and a bunch of other finance mumbo jumbo that you probably don’t know or even care about.
I thought for a moment about dropping the course and trying again later but then I slowly came back to reality and took a deep breath. I also briefly considered reentering the IT world thinking there is no way I could do this stuff for a living, but I remember feeling the same way about a bunch of IT stuff I had to learn way back in the day. I guess the moral of the story is, when you hit a valley, you have to just work that much harder to get through it. I will say this though, I'm looking forward to the second half of this course right now.
