Well, after watching me for the last 6 years or so doing homework night after night, sweating tests, spending countless hours buried face first in a book and missing out on friends and family my wife has recently thought, “hey, I’d like a piece of that action”. So now we are beginning our quest of information, which to be honest eLearners will be the 1st stop. She is now asking questions like:
1.) What do I want to major in?
2.) What type of learning method is best for me, online or correspondence?
3.) Should I take a work at your own pace program?
4.) How much am I willing to spend?
5.) Is the school accredited?
6.) Will the degree transfer into other programs?
7.) Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
I’m kind of happy that she is considering going to school. If ever there were a time, this is it. We don’t have kids yet, we’re between houses and there’s really not much else to do while cramped into a room with 2 cats and a psychotic dog. At least this way we can use the time for something productive. At this point I have considered her getting an AS or AA from Ft. Hays State University but she likes the idea of working at her own pace, so we may be considering a DETC school which is less expensive and allows you to work at your own pace. California Coast University is an option, as is Penn Foster College. I wouldn’t personally consider Ashworth College as my experience wasn’t all that pleasant but perhaps she will like their offerings enough to risk it. Anyways, I thought that was pretty neat and felt I would share. Wish us luck, it’s a big decision.
