I posted a while back on colleges and universities that I have personally recommended to various people in various circumstances from conclusions I have drawn from my own research. Found at
http://community.elearners.com/blogs/ashford_university_blog/archive/2007/09/08/schools-that-i-have-recommended-some-you-have-never-seen-before.aspx Of course not any one school is the right fit for everyone, but there are so many wonderful schools out there with so many wonderful offerings that I can't imagine too many situations outside of being a lawyer or medical doctor that you cannot get somewhere you want to be via distance education. You just have to decide "what you want to be when you grow up".
Of the schools that have not yet discovered the merits of becoming a member of the elearners community:
Columbia College

These guys have a pretty decent MBA program but what really caught my eye was their online MS in Criminal Justice. At $290 a credit hour for the graduate degree, this has got to be one of the best buys out there. I have a stepsister who attended here who commented on the large amount of work needed to complete a course, which while it may be rigorous is very well laid out curriculum wise. This is a capstone program, which while I like this others may find less appealing. As for the MBA? At $290 an hour and being regionally accredited it's tough to beat.
Rescue College

A very specialized program for a very special student offering a Bachelor of Science or Certificate program in Urban Ministries. Although a DETC accredited school, they have what I believe to be a solid little program. Make no mistake, this is not a theological degree but instead a practical education on how to actually start and run a ministry from counseling to accounting, they've got the bases covered. It is also worth noting that this degree program is the only one they offer and of course they require that you need 90 transfer credit hours to get into the program as they focus on the last 30 hours. It looks like an excellent program for those interested in starting a non-profit mission, ministry or the like. It seems almost like the intent is having this be a 2nd BS degree or certificate for those already trained in theology. Of interest may be the size of the school, which is small, very, very small.
Luther Rice University

One of my favorite little theological schools who interestingly enough were at one point seeking regional accreditation, though as of now they are accredited by TRACS (like DETC, a national accrediting body). Luther Rice offers various Bachelors and Masters Degree programs with a Doctor of Ministry online. My particular favorite of their various offerings is their Master of Arts in Leadership, not a business degree but instead a theological degree.
Harrison Middleton University

A "Great Books" approach to education, offering degrees from the Associates through Doctor of Education and the school is accredited by the DETC. Probably one of the few doctorate programs offered under DETC accredited schools, this university caught my eye several years ago with a unique degree program called a Master of Arts in Jurisprudence. So what can you do with an MA in Jurisprudence? I have no idea, but the curriculum is designed as such that by the time you finish the program you will probably have one of the most well rounded liberal arts educations out there. I am especially impressed with their Doctorate degree offering. Were I foolish enough to go beyond the Masters Degree level, this school would definitely be on my short list for Doctoral programs. Oh, it's also worth mentioning that I have not found a U.S. based institution around that has a Doctorate program for less money.
Wayland Baptist University

Although this sounds like a Seminary, it is not. This school has locations scattered throughout the U.S. and has online programs such as a nice Masters of Arts in Management but what really piqued my interest was their Master of Public Administration degree with one of two concentrations, one in Government Administration and one in Justice Administration. Guess which one I liked? At $285 a semester hour, they are one of the less expensive MPA degrees out there.
Of the schools that have seen the light in being a member at elearners:
Liberty University

One of the larger distance educators out there with a huge variety in offerings. At the graduate level I often find myself recommending or at least discussing their Master of Science in Management or Master of Science in Human Services. They also have a nice Theological Seminary with a few interesting offerings for those so inclined. I am a political conservative so the politics and beliefs of the school are largely in line with my own, however this may not be right for everyone. At least give them a look, they are one of the leaders in distance education.
