My Ashford University Experience

Vanessa is a 24-year-old stay-at-home mom, wife, military spouse, and veteran. She started her online education while she was still in the Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge, getting married, and having two beautiful girls in two years, she is still going strong with her education at Ashford University. She is currently doubling up on classes with hopes to attend graduation December 2009 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration.

So I can’t get on the Internet

I know, the sharper readers amongst you are asking yourselves, “then how did you post this?” Well, I’m simply borrowing a PC. I’m between houses and will be for the next few months (3) and staying elsewhere with a clunky PC, a cable modem that doesn’t work with my laptop and I just tried one of those Wireless G things to create a wireless network to no avail. So I have to consider some other options. Personally I’d like one of those internet anywhere cards but do not want a contract. Maybe there is something like that out there.

As of now I’m going to have to do homework at my work PC, after I’m off duty of course and make the best of a rough situation. Bummer. I’m completing week 3 of Managerial Economics and already I’m looking forward to having this behind me (how’s that for a confusing sentence). I’m tired of moving, tired of no sleep and tired of not having a routine. Student success as far as I’m concerned is all about building healthy habits into daily routines. Right now my habits are gone, my routine is shot dead and I’m struggling just to get this post up.

I am actually considering a dialup if I have to go that route. Remember those? The old 56K modem that would sing a little song while it connected. Slow uploads on WebPages, etc? I actually used a 56K not too long ago when a storm killed my DSL for about a 4 day period. Blackboard worked pretty well with it, but not for large file downloads like .pdf lecture notes.

So what’s your backup plan?

My folks have dial-up. When I visit them for the holidays, I'll be going nuts!

Cajun, years ago I used to try to prevent people from canceling their internet provider and one of the things that I would hear was, I don't have a phone or cable. No worries. Most cell phones have an adapter that allows you to use your cell as your internet connection. Contact your cell phone company and ask them if your phone is compatible and where you can get the cable. Most Radio Shacks carry them for about $20 or $30 and you don't need to have any type of contract. Good luck!
