My Ashford University Experience

Vanessa is a 24-year-old stay-at-home mom, wife, military spouse, and veteran. She started her online education while she was still in the Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge, getting married, and having two beautiful girls in two years, she is still going strong with her education at Ashford University. She is currently doubling up on classes with hopes to attend graduation December 2009 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration.

Double the pleasure

I spoke with my academic advisor today on the possibility of doubling up courses.  Of course this is rare for people to do this since the program is already accelerated but I am motivated and energized to knock this puppy out of the park almost 5 months early.  He is having to get a little creative with my schedule but he thinks we can work something out which I really appreciate.  Again Ashford exceeds my expectations.  Instead of telling me “policy is policy” like so many schools do, instead you get actual help when you ask for it.  What a radical concept, a school that teaches good business that actually practices good business.  I feel more and more confident each day that I chose the right program.

He did tell me that the classes do not necessarily link up exactly.  In other words I may be on week 2 of one class while being on week 4 of another.  Personally I feel this works in my favor since I will not have 2 finals due at the exact same time.  So is this a lot to take on?  Heck yeah it is, but instead of finishing in October, 2008 I will be finishing in about April 2008, now that is progress that I can subscribe to my friend.  The work will be ugly, long and hard, but I think I can do it, we’ll see I suppose.

So do I have a plan to deal with the added stress and anxiety?  Sure, I will set aside a little extra AM time that I would normally be sleeping in with and get gung-ho.  The only problem is that burnout is a very real possibility, but knowing that you are less than a year from completion, that’s motivation.  My brother has a theory that I will actually spend the same amount of time I do now only it will be split between 2 classes, but then, he always was a bit cynical.

Until tomorrow,

It's great to hear that you're getting actual help from your academic advisor!  Good luck with doubling up!  It sounds crazy, but I'm sure you can do it.  :-)

Also, I now have the Doublemint Gum jingle stuck in my head!  :-P
