Saving $$$ for the Holidays (5 of 10)

HOSTING & ENTERTAINMENT

Writing Check

Skip hosting big meals. Instead of playing host for a large dinner invite people over for appetizers or dessert. You'll still enjoy the gathering yet you'll save a lot of time and money by keeping it simple.

Watch for grocery deals. Retail stores are not the only ones offering holiday sales. Grocery stores offer money-saving specials this time of year too. By paying attention to flyers and shopping at more than one store you can cash in on the savings.

Take a drive. There is no need to pay a per car fee to drive through a commercial holiday lights event. Simply driving around neighborhoods in your area can provide you and your family with hours of viewing excitement. Pop in a holiday CD and the sights and sounds will get everyone in the festive spirit.

Watch the holiday classics. Remember your excitement when Rudolph saved Christmas by guiding Santa's sleigh? Well your children can experience the same fun by watching the holiday classics. Just check your local TV listing (or you can rent them if needed) and pass on this fun tradition to your children.

Visit the library. There are numerous holiday books available and if your own collection is lacking you can check out the library. Reading a holiday-themed book every night will be meaningful for the whole family.

Do it together. Your holiday to-do list most likely includes decorating the tree, wrapping gifts and baking cookies. Getting all of this done as a family will be time well spent together.

Start a new tradition. Your holiday traditions don't have to be limited to things you did as a kid. Starting new traditions is a great way to add excitement to your celebrations. Check out Family Fun.com for 10 New Holiday Traditions.

This is a great post!  Personally I absolutely adore the Dollar Store by my parents house.  It is new and is just fantastic!!  Who cares if your decorations only last a season or two, it only cost you a dollar!
