5 Simple Ways to Save $10 a Day (Post 5 of 5)

Save your money!

By saving just $10 a day you have $3650 in a year’s time. That’s a good chunk of change to apply to your back-to-school fund. Below are 5 more simple money-saving suggestions to help you accumulate that $10 a day. Check back next week when we post five more!

16. Before buying anything online do a quick search for discount codes. Simply typing in the retailer’s name and the words "discount code" or "coupon code" can instantly bring up a significant savings code.

17. Get your hair cut at the cheaper salons. The cuts are less expensive to begin with, you can often find a coupon to reduce the price even more, and you have the option of skipping extras like conditioner, hair drying, and styling.

18. Use your debit card as a credit card at retail locations and avoid those $1 point of sale fees.

19. Plan ahead and use your bank’s ATM to avoid paying $1-$3 to withdraw your own money.

20. Watch a matinee and split a large popcorn instead of ordering two small bags. Better yet, watch the movie at home and make your own popcorn.

21. Have your ink cartridge refilled instead of buying a new one. If you do need to get a new one turn the old one into the office supply store and get a coupon towards your next purchase.

22. Buy machine washable clothes and skip the stop to the dry cleaners.

23. Install a programmable thermostat. Don’t worry about keeping the house comfy when you are not there. A programmable thermostat will pay for itself in no time and save you money in the long run.

24. Make it a habit to flip the switch—to off that is. You walk into the room and automatically turn the light on. You just need to make it a habit to automatically turn the light back off.

25. Share magazine subscriptions. Read it, pass it on, and everyone saves. Just make sure you are splitting the cost of a subscription and not the newsstand price which can be 80+% more.

Saving $10 a day or more is easy when you incorporate little changes. Follow these suggestions and you can have your education paid for with very little effort.
