Career Specialists and Coaches are always thinking of new ways and strategies for jobseekers, career changers, and college students to become more effective and creative in their job search.  One new fad that has come for jobseekers to journal about their skills, talk about their goals, and focus on self-inspiration is starting a blog.  A blog takes work; it takes research, time, and energy to put out good, interesting, and "readable" material.

Most entrepreneurs write blogs about their business, the field of interest, and their own successes or progresses.  Jobseekers should do the same thing.  As a career strategist, I work with clients who want to know what they can do to make their job search effective.  What is effective?  Being effective, means to work towards something to obtain an expected or intended result.  The intended result for a job seeker is to produce energy that will land them a job offer.  So the works that you do, the energy that you put into a plan, you come out with the expectation that a job will come out of it.  The longer you stay dedicated to a goal, the more obtainable your successes will come.  Blogging is a new form of attracting human resource professionals to see who you are as a professional, measure your writing skills, and get a peek into your personality.  These are good things to expose to hiring managers, why?  Because the personality that you possess could either be an asset in the corporate environment or a deterrent.   So all in all, be yourself, but also be conscious of hiring managers "peeping" you out.

4 Tips for Your Personal Job Search Blog Success:

1.       Design it with a professional yet fun presence.  Make the colors reflect your personality, but give it a professional edge.  Learn how to design it yourself or get a graphic designer to help.  This is a good way to establish a professional brand.

2.       Don't post anything you wouldn't want a supervisor to know.  Do not post pictures or messages that are a sexual or inappropriate gesture.  Be respectful to your readers, be creative, but keep your personal things, I mean real personal things, personal

3.       Connect your blog to social media outlets.  Get the word out about the blog and get comments.

4.       Add the link to your resume.  The link should be a part of your contact information section of your resume.  Since it's a part of your job search strategy, the hiring population should be able to access the link and get an overview of your job and personal growth. It could land you an interview.

Blogging is a great opportunity to get your creative juices flowing, and reach other job seekers that are frustrated with their job searches...almost like therapy.  Enjoy this career marketing tip and if you have questions about how to make a job search blog; email me info@oscareerandlife.com
